The $127.50 Beer - Another Vintage Beer Auction
By jason on Nov 20, 2007 in Cellaring News and Events
If you’re not willing to pay $1005 for six beers, how about $127.50 (or more) for a single one?
Thats the current going price on an Ebay auction for a 2004 Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout by Three Floyds Brewery. It may go for a much higher price before it’s done. It’s a very rare and highly regarded beer (in a cool bottle to boot) but is it worth so much? More than one person seems to think so, as there have been multiple bids on the beer.
I have a feeling that these vintage beer auctions are only going to become more and more common. We’ve seen for years rare vintage wines regularly selling for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I think it was only a matter of time for rare vintage beers to start taking off as well.
I’m wondering if anybody reading has had any experience selling or buying rare beers in this kind of auction. Was it worth it? Had it been well taken care of? Would you do it again?
