Massive Six-Month Tasting Update!
By jason on Jun 4, 2008 in Beer Tastings, Reviews
Hi everyone. For my latest round of updates I have six beers cellaring well, and only a single one going downhill. I had fun with these tastings, as you can imagine!
Unibroue La Fin Du Monde - Reduced carbonation is really allowing the fruit flavors and sugar-cookie like sweetness to come through.
Stone Double Bastard Ale - The hops are fading a bit making this brew a bit harder to drink, but I’m convinced it’s going to get better over time.
Anchor Our Special Ale - There’s been virtually no change at all over the past six months - maybe a touch more of a malt presence?
Saranac Imperial Stout - Here’s the bad one of the bunch, just not very pleasant. Oxidation and a sour finish are a pretty good indicator that contamination has found its way in. I’m hoping this one bottle was just a fluke, and the rest of this batch will be fine in future tastings.
Captain Lawrence Xtra Gold - There’s no sign of slowing down here. This brew remains the delicious fruity ester bomb it was six months ago.
Southampton 10th Anniversary Old Ale - Still delicious, and still extremely sweet. I would say the malty flavors are continuing to develop in complexity.
Allagash Victor - Fruit flavors are very prominent, but have pulled back just a bit over the past few months. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the malt flavors that are coming forward are every bit as delicious.
