Name: Decadence Anniversary Ale (Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale)
Brewer: Alesmith Brewing Company
Style: American Strong Ale
Vintage: 2006
Cellared On: November 29th, 2007
Original Tasting: January 25th, 2008
Alesmith’s Decadence Anniversary Ale is a stronger version of their November seasonal beer, the Evil Dead Red Ale. This dark brown beer with rosy-red hues sure looks the part of a fall beer, almost like leaves of every color were packed in the glass. It was very aromatic, with sweet malty smells suggesting dark candied fruits.
Sticky and chewy in body, I found this beer to have a surprisingly bright and lively taste. Lots of fruity flavors abound, with cherries and raisins being the most prominent to me. The powerful malty sweetness comes with caramel/toffee overtones, and there’s just the right amount of hops to help cut some of that sweet taste.
This a big and complex brew, a sweet sipper to be sure.
Cellar Outlook: The label on Decadence recommends cellaring for 6 to 36 months, and I think another year or two will really do some good for this beer. I’m hoping for a drop in the sugar level to make it a bit easier to drink.
Next Tasting: June 2008

Nice. Does this qualify for The Session? (If you know about The Session…)
