January’s Six Month Aged Beer Tasting Notes
By jason on Feb 5, 2008 in Beer Tastings, Featured
It was another mixed bag of results for my latest round of six-month tastings:
Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot - Six months have been incredible for this beer. The huge sweet flavor has calmed down and made this into a an extremely drinkable beer.
Schneider-Weisse Aventinius - Another brew that’s just too easy to drink. Still very flavorful and much smoother then before.
Ommegang Hennepin - A little bit of a mystery. It’s a bottle-conditioned brew, but it almost seems like the yeast have already died off, as the beer was perfectly clear instead of cloudy like it was last summer. Flavors were a bit muted, but still yummy.
Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout - I had heard warnings on Beer Advocate’s Cellaring Forum that Oatmeal Stouts tend to age badly. If this beer is any indication, those warnings were absolutely correct.
Dogfish Head Chicory Stout - Not bad to drink, but diminished in almost all aspects.
In other news I had a wonderful present waiting for me when I came home today - a case of Deschutes Brewery The Abyss! I just love Liquid Solutions, and recommend them highly if you’re ever looking to order beer online.
