Dogfish Head’s Theobroma - Aztec Chocolate Drink Recreation

That sure didn’t take long.
It was just this fall that archaeologists told us about their discovery of an ancient alcoholic chocolate drink that was brewed thousands of years ago in Central America (Be sure to check out Zythophile’s take on the story). Wasting no time at all - they must have started planning as soon as they heard the story - Dogfish Head brewery is coming out with their version of this beverage, dubbed Theobroma.
Theobroma is brewed using “Aztec cocoa power and chocolate nibs, honey, chilies, and annato (fragrant tree seeds)”. It should be available in August of this year. I’ll certainly be cellaring a few, provided I can get some here in Upstate NY!

You shouldn’t have too much trouble. There are fortunately many places in Upstate NY that keep a full stock of Dogfish Head.

Yeah, you’re right they’re usually pretty good about shipping up here. We just didn’t get any of their Forte, which was released this fall. I was looking forward to that one, dammit.

This is my favorite brewery and I cannot wait to try their two new beers. Cool story behind this one. Like their Midas Touch brew.
