Belgian Styled Beers Great For Cellaring

The great homebrewer and beer fanatic Charlie Papizan has called Belgium “The Disneyland of Beer” because of the tremendous variety of flavors and styles you can find from Belgian offerings. Some of these beers are among the world’s best performers in the cellar. It’s been said that certain varieties of gueuzes can last up to thirty years!
I’ve come up with a short list of some Belgian and Belgian-styled beers that ytou should consider picking up to cellar. This list is not anywhere close to a complete list, just a few recommendations. I also tried to focus on beers that would be commercially available here in the states. Enjoy!
- Chimay Grande Reserve and Premiere - One of the breweries that should first come to mind whenever you think about beer cellaring.
- Cantillon Gueuze - A blend of lambic ales that were aged for different periods of time
- Brasserie d’Achouffe N’Ice Chouffe
- Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Renee
- Boon Gueuze Mariage Parfait - This beer is actually a three year-old lambic that gets refermented and aged for another six months.
- Orval Trappist Ale
- DeDalle Oerbier - One of many cellarable beers from this brewery
- Westmalle Tripel
- Gouden Carolus Tripel and Cuvee Van De Keizer
- De Dolle Stille Nacht - A christmas beer
- Petrus Golden Tripel
- Liefmans Gouden Band
- Brasserie a Vapeur Saison de Pipaix - A spicy farmhouse-style ale
- Stone Vertical Epic 07/07/07 - Which I’ve already gone on about in great lengths
- Victory Golden Monkeyand Grand Cru
- Unibroue Quel Que Chose - And just about everything else they brew
- Ommegang Abbey Ale, Hennepin, and Three Philosophers
- Allagash Grand Cru and Tripel Reserve - Among others
