A Glance Inside the Brew Basement Beer Cellar
By jason on Sep 10, 2008 in Beer Cellars and Vintage Beer, Featured
I’ve been asked a few times recently about the Brew Basement beer cellar and how it’s looking these days. Always eager to please, I took a bunch of pics and I thought I’d bore you to death with a few of them.
Here’s where all the magic happens. OK, so it’s a bit nondescript, but it’s the content the matters, right? The previous house owners (and our good friends) built this little pantry in one corner of the cellar. It’s made of concrete blocks and an old door they had laying around. They built it for storing kitchen supplies, but it’s a bit too damp for that. It’s perfect for beer though!

Here’s a closeup of the window. Exciting stuff, I know.
There was a bit too much ambient light coming into the beer cellar, so Lisa and I plastered the window over with all sorts of beer pics from six pack holders.
Here’s the rest of the room. The staging area is to the left, it’s where I keep beers that are getting ready to drink, as well as brews that haven’t been doing so well in the basement. The second pic is the far end of the basement, and the last pic is the long side of the room. They’re more or less in alphabetical order (which Lisa reminds me is slightly OCD whenever she sees it).
If you’re thinking I’m running out of room, you’re certainly right. I’m going to have to figure out a plan pretty soon!
Finally, we have the bottom shelf, where I have my cases, as well as brews I’ve unpacked from cases. I’m pushing up at around 800 brews or so, which isn’t so bad for a little over a year collecting.
Hopefully I haven’t put you to sleep with these pics, but they were asked for, I swear!

Wow man… to say I’m jealous would be a gross understatement…

I am also very jealous, but I love it nonetheless. I enjoy living vicariously through you.
There are no basements in Florida, but i still try. Keep up the good work, man.

My plan for making more space:
1) Place beer in boxes.
2) Mail boxes to me.
3) ?
4) Profit!

Nice collection! An investment like that deserves some special treatment. The hard part is letting them sit for 6 months to a year before sampling them. Thanks for sharing the pictures of your beer cellar with all of us. It makes me want to start building one myself.

I’ll have to show those pics to my wife and she’ll feel better knowing that someone else has a comparable collection but not as many but close plus a beer refrigerator to keep large supple of those beers (ipa’s etc)that will be consumed within 30 days. Great job. keep up the good work

Looks like I found your site just in time for the beer porn!
This is great stuff! Six months ago I moved to a place with a cellar (for the first time in my life), and happened to have left a 2008 bottle of Bigfoot and a Porterhouse Celebration Stout (from the Porterhouse in Dublin, Ireland, a lovely 10% Imperial Stout) down in the cellar since we moved in. I thought I’d leave them to mature a bit and see what happens, but you’ve inspired me to try it out on a greater scale if I can.
Well done on the scientific methodology!

Actually, I was just down in the cellar and I have to correct my comment above. The Bigfoot I have is 2007. Not sure what month though. And the PH Celebration is from 2006. It was celebrating 10 years of the Porterhouse being in operation. It also says best before Christmas 2008! I almost opened it now! Maybe tomorrow
