17 Porters and Stouts Perfect for Aging and Cellaring

If you’re looking for a good porter or stout to cellar, this is the place to start. Not only will the beers listed below quench your thirst, they should prove to be interesting and fun to age for awhile.

  • Avery Mephistopheles
  • Bell’s Expedition Stout
  • Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout - You can try an aged one of these any time you’re in NYC. Just head over to the Gramercy Tavern and check out their vintage beer list.
  • Courage Imperial Russian Stout
  • Deschutes The Abyss - Recently named as best stout in the US by Men’s Journal.
  • Dogfish Head World Wide Stout - The 18% ABV will probably knock you on your backside. I know it’ll knock me on my backside.
  • Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter - I was skeptical of this brew improving with age in my review (It’s just so good now), but I’ve had more then one person remark that it’s even better with a year under it’s belt.
  • Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout - Although Oatmeal Stouts don’t generally seem to age very well, this one is an exception. I really want to try some of this brew.
  • Guiness Special Export Stout
  • Harvey + Son Imperial Extra Double Stout
  • North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
  • Pripps Carnegie Porter - Another one that can be had at the Gramercy Tavern in NYC.
  • Rogue Russian Imperial Stout
  • Sinebrychoff Porter - It just feels right that someplace as cold as Finland would make one hell of a Porter, doesn’t it?
  • Stone Imperial Russian Stout
  • Stoudt’s Fat Dog - Another Imperial Oatmeal stout that ages well.
  • Victory Storm King
